Main Stage
Any girl who will be six years old on or before September 1st this year and is a Fredericktown School District resident who physically lives within the district or who currently attends Fredericktown Schools is eligible to compete in this year’s contest. She is required to wear a long red dress (tea length is acceptable).
The contest will be held on Wednesday September 6, at 7:00 p.m. Please check in, at the Fredericktown Event Center (124 N. Main St), at 6:00 p.m. to have your daughter’s picture taken. If you do not wish to have an individual picture taken, please check in by 6:30 p.m. Group pictures will be taken at 6:40 in the Event Center. This will then allow for last minute restroom breaks before lining up to walk to the stage. You will receive more information that evening about photographs. We are working with a local photographer, Tom Blackford, this year. You will be able to go online and see photos before purchasing them!
Out of town judges will score each contestant on a two minute interview (up to 15 points). Each will also be judged on appearance (up to 10 points) and how she behaves while on stage (up to 5 points). In order to get the girls to talk more openly during the interview, we have provided an information sheet to be filled out and returned. Make sure your daughter is aware of what you are writing down on the information sheet but please, don’t rehearse her answers. The more spontaneous responses seem to make a better interview. Please be specific in your notes and give us as much information as you can. The more the interviewer knows about your daughter, the more we will have to talk about!
Each contestant will receive a trophy and t-shirt with the top four scoring contestants receiving a trophy, tiara and cash prize.
All contestants are invited to participate in Thursday’s Kids’ Parade with Little Miss Tomato as Parade Marshal. Participants should wear their red dresses. The parade will organize, on the Historical Museum’s parking lot, on the square, at Sandusky and Main Streets. It begins at 6:30 p.m. The parade ends at the Main Street stage.
All contestants will also participate in Saturday’s big parade. They should dress in their LMT dresses. Girls will need to be dropped off at the entrance to the Fredericktown Police Department, 182 South Main Street, by 11:45. (The parade needs be ready to pull out by 12:20). Please make sure they go to the bathroom before they come to the parade area. The Board of Directors will provide a trailer for the contestants to ride on. Please remember to bring a water bottle and/or rain gear for your child. Let Missy Curry know if you are willing to help out. The girls will need to be picked up, back at the police department at approximately 1:30 p.m. It’s not easy to get back to the parade area but please be prompt, as the Directors need to get to other events uptown.
Thank you for taking the time to be part of the Tomato Show. If you have any questions, please call Missy Curry at 740-398-5959 or email her at missycurry4@gmail.com.
NEED A DRESS? WANT TO DONATE OR SELL A DRESS?
Contact Missy Curry at 740-398-5959 if you need a long red dress for the contest. If you would like to donate a dress or sell one, Missy will attempt to match people up. Do not wait too long though. The nearer the event, the less likelihood of a match up.
